Rules
Eligibility
- Schools must be located within the SJVAPCD. This includes San Joaquin County, Stanislaus County, Merced County, Fresno County, Kings County, Tulare County, and the Valley air basin portions of Kern County.
- Students in the Commute Green in the San Joaquin “Kids’ Edition” Challenge can only submit points for one school.
- All students must be enrolled in kindergarten through 6th grade.
- All students are required to follow California Law pertaining to their method of transportation. For those riding their bikes, helmets are required.
Scoring
- Students must commute to school using some method of ridesharing or alternative transportation other than a single-occupancy vehicle or school bus in order to be counted.
- Each day of the event, the team captain will collect the entry forms from the students who participated by using public transit, carpooling/vanpooling and biking/walking/ scooter to their school.
- It is the responsibility of the team captain to collect entry forms from the students on a daily basis and to mail the entry forms at the end of the contest.
- The school in each county with the highest cumulative percent participation for the week wins for their county.
- In the event of a tie, the school with the greatest percentage of students using a zero-emission alternative to commute for the week will win.
- Low-emission options, such as driving a hybrid or CNG vehicle, do not count as an alternative method unless they are being used for carpooling; the goal is to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicles.
- Being dropped off at school does not count unless the driver is also headed to the same school.
